if you keep a saltwater tank then you probably have experienced the frustration of dealing with saltwater aquarium algae. Even with the best equipment and intense maintenance you will never remove all the nuisance algae from your tank, but with the help of some algae eating saltwater fish you can keep it to very minimum levels.

Great Algae Eating Saltwater Fish For Your Saltwater Tank

Yellow Tang- This bright yellow fish will devour hair algae like a hungry kid in a candy store and add beauty to your tank at the same time. Make sure they are kept in tanks that are at least 4 feet long to give them adequate swimming room and keep only one per tank or fighting will occur. These fish have a fast metabolism and If they eat all the algae they will need to be feed a few times a day to keep them well nourished

Bi-Color Blenny- Bi color blennies do a great job of eating diatom and other filamentous saltwater aquarium algae that grow on the aquarium rocks and walls of the tank. They are cheap, have lots of personality and are disease resistant. In smaller tanks under 55 gallons keep one per tank or fighting may occur.

Dwarf Angelfish- Some of the smaller angel fish like the flame angel and coral beauty angel fish are great algae eating saltwater fish and will often graze on the algae that grows on live rock in the saltwater tank. These are beautiful fish that are rather expensive and some what delicate so they should only be added to an established aquarium with good water quality. Again keep only one of these fish per tank or they will fight.
