The presidential race in the Democratic party is hotting up. It seems that Hillary Clinton could have some real competition from Mr Obama. And for me that is a real problem as I want a woman to win, but have high regards for Mr Obama as well and would love a black president. I just wish he had waited a little and allowed Hillary in first. He is still young after all.
Of course Mr Obama might have Oprah supporting him. Hillary has hubby Bill as a support base. I think I would go with Bill myself. It is quite a strange situation where the presidential candidate’s potent weapon is an ex President. It will depend on whether the public want to have Bill back in the White House. Remember that his name was slightly tarnished the first time he lived there. But then the spotlight is not directly on him. But his presence will certainly make a difference.
In a way Hillary will stand with Bill. Bill is not going to be in the family shot of presidential candidates, looking cute and waving to the crowd. The obligatory happy family group on the stage that the Americans love to present. He will be a dynamic additional package and the public will have to decide whether they will want two for the price of one. It’s hard to imagine one family living in the White House for twelve years. At least when Hillary moves in she will know the ropes. It will be quite strange though for her to have the good ‘corner’ office with the view, this time around.
This election for the presidential candidacy in the Democratic camp is going to be quite something to watch. I would not want to have to commit to a winner at this stage. The Republicans in contrast seem to be floundering around with no real contender for the damaged throne. Perhaps the candidates know already that their current leader has so damaged their reputation that it will take a few years before Republicans will have a shot at another president again.
