Knott's Fine Foods Incorporated is located in the city of Paris TN. They are in the process of issuing out a product recall. The recall involved their chicken salad sandwiches which weigh about 3 lbs each. The specific product has an expiration date of 1/29/13. The reason these products are being voluntarily recalled is because it may have the potential to be contaminated with Listeria Monocytogenes. Listeria can be very dangerous because it can seriously infect children, older people, and people with frail systems of immunity. Even healthier adults and individuals can suffer headaches, high fevers and nauseas, to name a few.
Most of sandwiches were sold in stores in Tennessee, Kentucky and Mississippi and was sold in a total of 35 stores.
Every sandwich that expires in 1/29/13 is being recalled. Each product has a orange sticker on the wrapping of the package with the expiration date. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.
The possibility of a contamination was found after the Tenessee Department of Agriculture made a routine test on the products. They found the presence of Listeria in one chicken salad sandwich. Knott’s Foods also announces that no other products have been affected by Listeria.
For now, the production of these chicken sandwiches has been stopped. The FDA is investigating the source. If you have purchased this product it is necessary to return them to the place of purchase.
