Being an article writer can be one of the coolest professions on earth, as long as you have a few necessary requirements for the job. It takes more than just being able to string a few sentences together, although that does help. To be a success, you will need to have a mix of qualities that can be learned, as well as those that are second nature.

Ignoring Misconceptions About Being A Freelance Writer

The first misconception about being a freelance writer actually has to do with money. A lot of people going into this profession do so thinking they will be able to sit and write for small fortunes. While this might be true for some, it’s not going to happen overnight. It takes a lot of hours of hard work, determination and persistence.

Second misconception about being an article writer, has to do with being able to pick and choose the assignments you are given. While this may be true for those who have had a long career being a freelance writer, for those of us just starting out, this will not be possible. You could turn down assignments, and only work on the ones you want, but you may find that the amount of work coming your way will drop. You have to prove yourself, and to do that, you need to be willing, and flexible enough to take on any assignment you are given.

Good Qualities

One of the first good qualities that an article writer should possess is the ability to express themselves well. The market for native English speakers is quite large, but do not let that stop you if you are from another country. All it takes is some time, further study, and a lot of practice to get that most desirable voice down. Writers that can capture an audience’s attention with their words quickly will go far, and to do this you must be able to speak at their level.

Being a freelance writer could mean working for a lot of different clients. Each one will have their own expectations about how the work should be done, so flexibility is a quality that is most prized. An article writer should also have a great attention to detail, as well as being able to take criticism. All these qualities, plus a sense of style and grammar, will get you far in this profession.
