Information products are, arguably, one of the most effective ways of making money on the internet. But, product creation is far more than simply sitting down and writing an ebook or another type of information product. In fact, there are four steps you must take to ensure that your product will make you money.
Step One: Find Out What Your Customers Want
You must know what information your customers are looking for: Product creation is all about providing your customers with something that they want. One of the best ways to gauge what information your customers want is to simply ask them what they want.
If you already have a list of customers, create a survey that you can send to your list. But, if you don't yet have a customer list or you're in the process of building one, create a squeeze page with your survey questions.
The best way to entice customers to complete your survey is to offer them something for free, such as a report. Or, you may even want to offer those who complete your survey a free copy of your product when it's complete.
While you're waiting for customers to complete your survey, start working on step two: evaluating similar products already on the market.
Step Two: Evaluate similar products already being sold
In all likelihood, there are similar products to the one you're creating that are already being sold. Get your hands on those products and read them. What do you like about them? What don't you like about them? What information is missing? How can you improve upon those products?
Once you've evaluated competing products, you can carefully plan your product, including how you will fill the holes that are missing in other products.
Step Three: Create your product
If you don't have the time or simply aren't comfortable writing your ebook, hire a professional writer to write it for you. The most popular and most profitable ebooks generally are those that are well-written and jam-packed with useful information your customers want or need.
If you write the ebook yourself , consider hiring a professional to proofread and edit your final product. It's not uncommon for ebooks to be filled with glaring grammatical and spelling errors. Unfortunately, errors can make a customer question your credibility. Proofread because you want your final product to be as professional as possible.
Once you've written your ebook or other digital product, consider asking several customers or others in your particular niche to review the ebook for you. You can then use those reviews on your sales page and on any other promotional materials you may use.
Step Four: Market your product
Now that you've written your ebook, had it proofread, and had several customers review it for you, you're ready to write or hire a copywriter to write your sales page and to begin marketing your new product.
You have numerous avenues for marketing your product, including:
- List it on Clickbank and Commission Junction.
- Start an affiliate program, so affiliates can promote the product for you.
- Create a squeeze page from which to sell your product.
- Use Google Adwords
Ultimately, your product's success, in part, will be determined by how aggressive you are in marketing it.
