This is a question that’s asked frequently. Most consumers are already aware that “anything Apple” is going to be a little costlier than anything of any else, such as the Windows operating system, or a PC. But does this same thing apply to Mac web hosting? And if so, how much more does it cost than other web hosting plans?
Unfortunately, it is true that Mac web hosting typically costs more for the average business than standard web hosting will; this is for two reasons. The first is that with Mac web hosting, you can make many customizations and truly tailor your server to your exact specifications. Need something on there? You can install it. Need to update it? You can, and you’ll probably even have many choices to choose from when you do. Whatever your wish for your server, you can pretty much do it all.
However, with all of these customizations comes extra cost. The host needs to be able to provide you with all of those customizations and that might take more hardware, more software, and more resources overall. That is expensive for the host and so, they’ll most likely pass those costs on to the customer. This isn’t anything unique to Mac; all web hosts pass on their extra costs to customers. It’s just that with Mac hosting, there are always extra costs.
Another reason why Mac web hosting is more expensive than standard web hosting is because the hardware required to run Mac servers is more expensive. Although the servers are still Unix-based, they do need additional resources and tools to run. Just like the customization of Mac servers, the higher cost of those server resources will also be passed on to you. In exchange though, you’ll receive some of the most reliable and stable performance in the industry.
So, back to the question: how much does Mac web hosting cost? Just like with regular web hosting, the costs with Mac hosting can vary greatly from provider to provider. The difference is that it’s very hard to find Mac hosting for as cheap as you would with standard web hosting. While standard web hosting can be found for as little as $2 a day, or free even, this is not true with Mac web hosting. The cheapest you’ll probably find Mac hosting offered at is around $10 a month; but it can go up to thousands of dollars.
If you need to keep your web hosting needs low, and you absolutely must use Mac web hosting (if you’re using a Mac or Apple device, you will absolutely need to use Mac hosting, ) there are a few ways you can do it. Of course, look for the host that can give you the most features for the cheapest price – just be sure that they’re still a very qualified and professional company. The other, maybe even more effective, route you can take when trying to keep your costs down is to cut back on the customization you use on your server. The less customization, the less it will cost you. And you’ll still be getting a fantastic web host in the meantime!
