The key with successful forum marketing is that you don't have to advertise blatantly to get attention and get traffic. No, really, you don't! The idea with forum marketing is to be seen as an information provider and someone who genuinely wants to contribute to the community. When you do that, the traffic naturally comes in.
You don't want to come across as too direct and self-promotional on forums. That will get you banned pretty quickly. When you register at a new forum, introduce yourself and get involved in discussions, gradually increasing your participation. One of the first things you also need to do is to create a compelling signature box that most forums grant you. What you want to do is create a simple headline, bold it, and below it, put a link to your website with a call to action such as ‘Click Here To Download Now’ or ‘Click Here To Find Out More’. Your signature box is the only place where you can promote your own business so use it wisely.
Make a list of 5 forums in your market and start spending an hour each day posting to all 5 of them. So for each forum, you may spend 10-15 minutes on it. This is enough time to put in 3-5 quality posts that can get you traffic. In one hour, you can easily have about 20 new posts with the capability to drive traffic for you. Doing this for a week would mean 140 new posts! Will that drive traffic to your site? You bet it would!
So get involved in forum marketing by not marketing. Yes, it sounds like oxymoron but that's what forum marketing is about - posting quality content so readers will be interested to see more of what you have to offer by clicking through to visit your website.
