Ebook writing is critical, in my opinion, to getting your own web business up and running. Sure, you can sell other people’s products – but it is so much easier to just sell your own product, in my opinion.
I think you should be able to write an ebook in a number of days. Your biggest limiting factor will be how fast you can type, if you are writing on something about which you are familiar. If you are not as familiar with your topic, you may have to do some research – but once you have written your first ebook, you will get better and faster at doing research.
So one thing I think you should do if you type slow is to take a typewriting course. I type at 50 WPM, which might seem fast to you, if you are slower than that, but if I typed at 100 WPM, I could write my ebooks in half the time - so it really is important.
I do not believe that it should take months or years to write an ebook. As many of you know, I have written about 15 ebooks, and 7 of those are for sale (2 are parts of packages) – all in about 8 months.
I literally will conceive of an ebook in one day, then later that schedule all my emails for the next week in aweber, so I don’t have to mess with them, then in the morning I answer all my emails, then I turn off my email accounts – and literally lock myself away so I can only write.
Sometimes I will go to my favorite restaurant and eat lunch, and then type until I am tired – then I will write some more. It is a dedication thing – some days I might start at 9 or 10 AM and type until 9 or 10 PM – sure, I am tired at the end of the day – but if I have a few 15,000 word days, I am way ahead – and then I can start fine-tuning things.
By the way, my favorite method of generating traffic to sell my ebooks is article marketing.
