Having another website promote your product or service is an excellent way to draw traffic to your site. This process, called affiliate marketing, is a win-win situation for both you and the site that advertises your product. Affiliate marketing programs work on a pay per hit premise. This means the affiliate website will receive compensation each time a potential customer clicks on your ad and is redirected to your site. In essence, you are only paying if you actually see results.
One thing to keep in mind when considering an affiliate marketing program is the content of the site that will contain your ad. Carelessly placing your logo and advertisement on every site open for business is not an effective way to drive customers to your site. It is important that the affiliate site and the advertiser share a common demographic. This means that the same people who visit the affiliate’s site will also be interested in your product.
For example, if you are selling beauty products a good match might be a site catering to brides to be, or working women. Similarly, if you are advertising automotive parts, consider a site geared towards men or car owners, perhaps with content relating to men’s health or an insurance company.
For an affiliate, this program is an excellent way to put a website to work. Affiliates can form relationships with as many or as few advertisers as they choose, as long as they make sure there is no conflict of interest clause in their program before accepting competing advertisers. Affiliate marketing is one of the hottest web businesses today, virtually maintenance free, it is of benefit to both the advertiser and the affiliate.
