List Building – 5 Essential Basics Of Opt-In List Building Campaigns

1. Target As Tightly As Possible.

When planning your list building campaigns you should define the ‘ideal’ visitor that you’re looking for. Then your whole plan should be based on that visitor. Your traffic generation should target that visitor and the page of your site that they arrive at (the landing page) should be written for that visitor. The incentive that you offer in exchange for the name and email address of your visitor should relate closely to the previous steps and your emails that you send via your autoresponder should also be consistent with all of the process. This means that you will have a highly targeted list that is much easier to market to.

2. Structure Your Squeeze Page For The Highest Conversion Rates.

By structuring your squeeze page in a certain way you can increase your conversion rates. I have found that by using a headline, followed by a strap line and a list of bulleted benefit points before a simple opt-in form gives me my best conversion rates. Images and audio could be added but they should be congruent with your ‘ideal’ visitor.

3. Setup Your Reliable Autoresponder For Success.

When setting up the emails for your list building campaign it is important that you format them correctly. The subject line is what determines whether your email actually gets read. Using the persons name, ‘you’, ‘your’ and ‘you’ll’ also increase open rates. Use information about your targeted visitor that you can assume they will be interested in. If it is all closely related and you target traffic correctly you should be able to write headlines easily.

The body of your email should be broken up into paragraphs of around 2-3 sentences and each one should lead nicely on to the next. Speak to the person you have targeted as if you are talking to them. This will make your emails easy to read.

4. Build Trust And Credibility With Targeted Content

Don’t skimp on the content of your emails. Whilst you don’t have to tell everything the information that you provide should be full and accurate. This was your subscribers will get something useful out of your emails and you will build trust and credibility withy them. When list building it’s better to have a lower number of interested subscribers who trust what you have to say than loads of people who couldn’t care less about the content.

5. Recommend The Right Products

You are probably building a list because you want to make money. There is nothing wrong with that. You are being rewarded for your time. You will have researched your topics, evaluated products and made recommendations to your subscribers. The right products are ones that you have tried and can confidently recommend. Nothing will destroy the trust you build quicker than you recommending a product that you’ve said is great and that your subscribers should buy and it turns out to be a poor product.
