For those who are disabled, holidays often take a lot of research and planning. You want to make sure the places you’re visiting have all the right features and facilities you need so that you can have the best time possible. Luckily, Costa del Sol not only ticks off your relaxation requirement, it also has a high number of beaches that are sensitive to the needs of the disabled. Holidays including trips to easily-accessible and safe beaches are simpler to create than you may think – so start covering yourself in sun cream because Costa del Sol has you covered.

  1. La Misericordia, Málaga – Blind and deaf beach-goers will love La Misericordia, a beach in Málaga that has special services for the seeing and hearing impaired. Those in wheelchairs will also be able to play in the sand and swim in the sea, with the help of adaptations such as amphibious crutches and seats. Volunteers are always around to help anyone in need and three monitors are in place to make the beach safe and fun for all.
  2. Arroyo de la Miel, Benalmádena – With a plethora of aids to help wheelchair users, including a gangway ramp to get to the sea and amphibious chairs and crutches, Arroya de la Miel is one of the most disability-sensitive beaches out there. They’ve even made sure that the section of beach that is closest to the first aid post focuses on helping swimmers who are disabled.
  3. La Cala, Mijas – Those with reduced mobility will be amazed by the diverse range of facilities La Cala provides for the disabled, their most impressive being a service that offers personalised swimming support.
