You can lower your home insurance rates by doing certain things. Some of them are things that you can do within minutes and some will require both some serious time and money investment. We'll touch a few ways you can lower your rates in this article. However, bear in mind that there are many other ways.
1. Individuals who have good security systems enjoy lower rates. Dead-bolt locks and burglar alarms should attract savings of close to 5 percent. With certain insurance companies discounts as high as 20 percent are available if you install certain really advanced security devices.
Just note that such devices must be recommended by your insurer for you to get such big savings. The irony, though, is that even though such devices will bring down your rates, they're by no means cheap.
2. A home of smokers will get high rates. Your premium would be reduced if every smoker in your household quits. Statistics indicate that around 23,000 residential fires each year result from smoking.
However, do NOTE that a number of insurance companies do not offer any markdowns for this.
3. You'll pay lower rates if you live close to a police station and/or fire station. You'll also pay less if your home is close to a fire hydrant. So factor these in when you shop for a new home.
4. You will save a lot of dollars by getting and comparing home insurance rates from at least three quotes sites that return quotes. The plain reason for this is that you will get many more quotes from a wider range of insurers. This increases your chances of getting better rates.
