Has the price you are paying for Arizona auto insurance gotten out of hand? In 2007, Arizona was ranked #13 in the country for the most expensive state for auto insurance. Many people feel that they are spending too much money on car insurance, but they are not sure what to do bout it or if anything can be done about. There are a few things that can be done to lower your auto insurance price.

1. Raise Your Deductible: By raising the deductible on your auto insurance policy, you can lower your premiums and save yourself some money on your car insurance bill. You will need to make sure that you can cover the deductible amount if you were to ever get into an accident.

2. Eliminate Unnecessary Coverage: Take a look at what you are paying for on your policy and eliminate any unnecessary coverage. Make sure you still have at least the state's minimum requirements covered on your policy. The Arizona state minimum requirements are as follows:

  • $15,000 Bodily Injury Liability per person
  • $30,000 Bodily Injury Liability per accident
  • $10,000 Property Damage Liability

3. Take a Driver Safety Course: You could save yourself some money on insurance costs by taking a driver safety course as many insurance providers will offer a discount for completion of an approved course. Check with your car insurance company to see if they offer this discount to their customers. The Arizona National Safety Council offers AZ residents courses in defensive driving.

To find out information on courses times and listing contact them:
Arizona National Safety Council
1606 West Indian School Road,
Phoenix, Arizona 85015-5232
(602) 222-3360

4. Raise Your Credit Score: Many insurance companies will factor in a person's credit score when determining the car insurance rate they will assign them. Insurance companies view people with lower credit scores as a higher risk. By raising your credit score you could lower the costs of your insurance policy. While there isn't a short term fix for bad credit there are some things you can do to gradually raise your credit score such as paying your bills on time, not opening new and unnecessary lines of credit, and paying off some of your debt. Also, check your credit report and see what is on there. Arizona residents can request a free credit report by calling Annual Credit Report Request (1.877.322.8228).

5. Equip Your Car with Safety Devices: Many car insurance companies will offer their customers discounts for having proper safety features in their car such as anti lock brakes, air bags, and anti theft systems.

6. Know Your State Laws: Did you know that according to state laws in Arizona, insurance providers are not allowed to increase the “premium of an insured as a result of an accident not caused or significantly contributed to by the actions of the insured" ? Knowing the laws that are specific to your state can help you become a wiser consumer and may save you money on car insurance.

7. Shop Around: To find the lowest prices on car insurance it is important to shop around and compare quotes from top insurance companies in AZ.

Some of the top Arizona car insurance companies include:

3003 North Central Ave.
Suite 1110
Phoenix, AZ 85012

Liberty Mutual:
2510 West Dunlap Suite 350
Phoenix, AZ 85021

1529 W. Thomas Rd.
Phoenix, AZ 85015

Even if you already have a policy in place, it is a good idea to compare quotes every six months or so to ensure you are getting the best deals available to you on your AZ car insurance policy.
