Retirement Speeches Top Tips on Giving Retirement Speeches

Visitors: 178

Retiring from a job, especially after many years on it, can be bittersweet, often overwhelming. Usually, the transition is a smooth one, where the new retiree looks forward to the big event, but it can also be a tense situation, especially if finances are going to be a problem. Either way, retirement is the end of life as one knows it, and the beginning of another life, complete with whatever it brings.

Usually, most organizations give the retiree a farewell party. This initiates the opportunity for giving retirement speeches. But what goes into ideal retirement speeches? It starts with the retiree going back over all of those “unforgettable" memories of life on the job. And goes downhill from there.

After lifting the spirits of soon-to-be-former coworkers with the beginning of your speech, then the next step for retirement speeches entails thanking all those who have meant so much to you throughout the years. If there are specific people who have been invaluable to you, mention them by names and give them a specific thank you in your retirement speeches.

The opposite is true in the next segment of retirement speeches. If there have been any “less than perfect" relationships that have caused relationship strains with any coworkers, be big and apologize here. Leave the firm on a positive note. Let them know if you have been severe with them, it was nothing personal, only business. You weren't out to hurt or insult anyone. Wrap up retirement speeches with well wishes, letting everyone know how much you will miss being a daily part of their lives. This will have to be sincere, and should leave a lasting impression on your coworkers.

If you are not one of the few people blessed with the gift of the golden tongue, then there are numerous websites available that will supply you with retirement speeches.

You can also turn the duties of retirement speeches over to a colleague. Let someone else roast you on your big day, so you can relax and enjoy your last day in captivity. Sometimes they can provide little tidbits of reminiscing that you don't remember, that you could then look back upon with fondness. Just pray that they don't bring up “those times" that could lead to embarrassing revelations. Think back on all those Christmas parties, and be sure to forewarn your “roaster" to keep the skeletons in the closet.

Retiring is hard enough, but having to write your retirement speech as well is sometimes just too much of to ask. That is why we recommend that you purchase a professionally written retirement speech and then make some minor changes to personalize it.
