Tips on How to Find a Baby Sitter

Visitors: 120

You love spending time with your kids more than anything in the world, but you do deserve a break once in awhile. Going out for a romantic dinner or spending time with friends is something you should not refrain from doing from time to time. It is not difficult to find a baby sitter who you can trust to care for your children while you are taking a few hours off. You just need to make sure you do the necessary research in order to find a sitter that both you and your children like.

You should first ask close friends or coworkers if they have any recommendations. It is smart to get references from people you trust, because if they feel safe leaving their kids in the care of this individual, most likely you will too. Older teenagers in the neighborhood are also a good place to start. It is very convenient if they live nearby and you will most likely already know them or their parents well. These methods work well if you are already well established in your community. Individuals who have moved however, may need to explore other options. One possibility is to contact agencies. There are also many online sites that are designed to help parents connect with sitters in their area.

Once you have a list of possibilities, call the individuals up and conduct a phone interview. Always ask about their experience, special training, fees, and for at least two references. If they pass your initial test, then follow up with their references. If things look good, arrange an in-person meeting. Observe how the individual interacts with your children. The last test would be to have the sitter watch the kids for a short period of time during the day. If this works out, and your kids approve, then you can have her baby sit for a night and hopefully you have found someone that will work out well!

Make sure you give a new baby sitter a tour of the house and clear guidelines. Give her a list of the household rules, emergency numbers, medical information, and special requests. Check in after being gone for one hour to see if things are going well. It is not difficult to find a babysitter that is reliable and good with your children. Just make sure you do your research!
