Keep Kids Healthy

Ever wonder why your child is always getting sick? This article may shed light on some of the reasons.

Toddlers actually need 10-12 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period. This is often over looked. Infants need much more. And teenagers in high school should have at least 8-10 hours of sleep every night. Without proper rest, kids are not able to fight off illness let alone function properly in school. My youngest goes to bed early, but my 3 year old fights tooth and nail. So I let my 3 year old take naps as long as she sleeps because I know her body needs the rest. I certainly respect that this would not work for every family, but try to promote plenty of rest using a method that works for you.

Keeping kids healthy includes cleanliness. One of the most important things we can do to keep kids healthy is to wash our hands and wash them often. Also teach your children to wash their hands and encourage them to do it frequently. This is especially important after coming home from a department store and other crowded places. A child's living environment should also be clean to keeps kids healthy.

Don't let your children indulge in sugars like soda, candy bars, and pastry's. Too much sugar is terrible for a child's immune system. This is difficult, but possible. Substitute fresh fruits for candy and juice for soda. Then eventually mix fresh water with juice because even 100% juice can contain large amounts of natural sugar.

To keep children healthy they must have adequate nutrition which includes fruits and vegetables. Try to discover what vegetable you child enjoys and let them eat it, even if it's only one or two. Children usually eat fruit quite well without fussing. But they need the nutrients in both fruits and vegetables to fight off sickness.

Your children need your love in order for them to stay healthy. This comes in different forms. They need your discipline because it can keep them safe, but it also shows them you care about them. They need your affection. Sit on the sofa and hold them while they watch a video. They also need you to spend some quality time with them because this is one of the most important things in their lives. Finally, kid's need you to build them up and encourage them with your words. Children need these things for emotional health because if they are feeling emotionally sick, it can lead to physical illness. So love them, encourage them, and do not put them down. Never tell a child that they are a “pain" or that they are “worthless". But tell them how special they are, even if you don't feel that way.
