In this fast paced world our families are drifting further and further apart. Sports, after school activities, modern technology, hundreds of movie channels and video games are claiming our children's attention. We need to make a strong effort to get our children to have time and family fun. We need to carve out time for enjoyable family fun, such as a Friday night movie together, play cards, board games or toss a ball around. While you are at it, make memories. Create shared moments like the kids sports, recital or taking that vacation you always talked about.
Life is getting in the way of that close knit family we all grew up in. In this day and age a close knit family has become a blurry, disconnected mass of people rushing off to do their own things. It is essential in this day and age that we try to bring our families back together.
The only way we can achieve this, is to schedule family time. Give your family the time to savor family life. Gather the family around the supper table at least once a week. As you eat, start a conversation on what each family member has been doing lately. Hold regular Sunday lunches and a dinner, once a week
Plan a family vacation. It can be two weeks or two days. Give your family time to savor life. Don't forget to include every member of the family in the planning. This will reduce anxiety and quibbling for every family member. While on vacation, unplug all cell phones and leave all your electronics at home. (this includes your lap top).
Establish a family legacy by instilling great values in your children. You will also have to live by them for your children to understand them. Hugs and touching will go a long way towards getting your family together. These values are a powerful message of closeness and nuturing. Seize and savor every opportunity to touch every member in your family. Whether it be a hug, a squeeze, or a kiss on the cheek, your family will always remember it.
Get the family involved in a project. Everyone will be united in doing this project. Planting a garden, putting up a fence, other home improvement projects or doing chores together will go a long way in bringing your family back. These are but a few suggestions. If you have any other ideas, please use them. In this crazy, hurried world, we need to all get back to our families.
