Enjoying a Merry Christmas Even During Recession

Visitors: 186

Recession and bad economy previsions are affecting most North American this year. How can a family still enjoy a merry Christmas if they are facing foreclosure, bankruptcy or living off payday loans?

This year, many people lost their jobs and many more are facing getting laid-off or downsized in a near future. The holiday season might be the occasion to feel some warmth and happiness. People should not feel like they need to get more in dept just to shower their family with expensive gifts that might not be appreciated that much.

How can a family enjoy a merry Christmas without spending too much money?

First, people have to realize what the holidays are about: getting together with the people you love and celebrate life and love. Most gifts and activities do not need to be expensive to create lasting happy memories.

People who have children can make great activities such as baking together while a fun holiday tune is playing in the background. While cooking, doubling the recipe and bringing the extras to a relative or neighbour that cannot cook will bring them a great holiday taste and this will not cost you much.

Another great activity if you have children is to just go outside and do a family activity together. It is a known fact that North Americans spend way too much time in front of the television set so getting out will provide some activity and will get the family together.

Some television programs offer free Karaoke or you can buy a simple CD for less than 20$ and enjoy a night of fun and singing.

Children just love to see themselves in photo albums or movies. Getting out the old photo albums or movies and enjoying a family night together is also an activity that will bring everyone together and will cost you nothing. While you are there, why not get out the old pictures and movies of when you were young. The children always get a good laugh of seeing their parents when they were young.

There are many holidays’ crafts you can do for a very low cost. For less than ten dollars, you can create a great scrapbooking album with the children and you will have spent an entire afternoon with them.

Another great way to spend the holidays while having fun and beating the recession is to get out those dusty puzzles you have in your closets. Children enjoy spending time with their parents and are very proud to show the finished puzzle they did.

Most people have a computer in their house nowadays. Taking lots of digital pictures and creating a movie with the children while they choose the music and effects can be a great free holiday project. You can then show the movie to the relatives when you see them or send them a web link where you posted the video.

The holidays do not have to be an added financial burden and everyone can enjoy a great Christmas even though we are in a recession. Even if the economy is bad, you can enjoy free or very lost cost fun holidays activity if you put your thinking cap on.

Another great way to save for the holiday season is to wait for the after Christmas sales. If you explain to your children that they will get better and more gifts after Christmas, they will understand and look forward for that magical moment.

Everyone can enjoy a fun Christmas and holiday season in the company of their family without getting more in debt.
