Catering is More Than Great Food

One of the best compliments I've ever received in my work as a professional caterer came from a client whose event I wasn't able to attend. I am normally at every event I cater, for at least a portion, if not all of it. But a few years back, I had the mixed blessing of having two parties at opposite ends of the county which overlapped time wise. They were both first time clients, so I was, of course, a bit nervous about not being able to be at one of them.

The following day I spoke with the client whose party I didn't attend. She told me, to my delight, “your staff is like a well oiled machine. "

So often I will hear from potential clients, who are willing to spend lavishly on food, that they don't want to pay for as much staff as I have recommended, or they don't understand why they should pay a waiter so much. In fact, surveys by national catering organizations list this as one of the most frequent comments caterers hear from their prospective clients. The truth of the matter is that catering is more than great food. While I personally place a very high priority on the quality of the food I serve, I know that my staff is an extremely integral part of the entire experience. There are countless details that go into creating a great event. I depend on the party staff to create an event which runs seamlessly and looks great. They are all highly skilled in their respective areas and work as a team- indeed, a “well oiled machine".

It's disconcerting to hear people say they can have friends help serve, cook, clean up afterwards -fill in the blank- at their wedding reception or special occasion. While having your family or friends help out may seem like an easy way to cut costs, it is sure to diminish the complete experience that professional caterers strive to offer you and your guests

Putting on a successful party requires a lot of work. Do you really want your guests or family having to work on your wedding day? Do you want them having to deal with problems that may arise? Your guest are attending your party to celebrate with you, and to enjoy themselves. Their attention will always be split, and at some point they will want to just party. Professional staff is at your party to ensure that everything runs smoothly and to make sure that you are free to do your job- relaxing and enjoying your guests and your event. Isn't that what you deserve on your special day?
