Nothing makes a person feel appreciated like a few well-chosen thank you words. Writing simple thank you cards makes people more likely to want to help you again if you need it, and shows that you are a good friend. It helps to empower the people you appreciate, and helps you build new friendships and maintain old ones.

When you take the time to think of thoughtful words for a thank you note, you empower the person you thank. Knowing that you have positively influenced someone's life is one of the most gratifying feelings there is. It lets you know that you are important and that you do have influence - and you are using it in a positive way. It also lets you know that you are liked by the person you have influenced. When you use the right thank you words with a person, they feel all of these things.

Telling someone ‘thank you, ’ or sending them a thoughtful thank you card, makes them more likely to help you out in the future. After all, everybody loves to be appreciated. Everybody loves to feel empowered. And they will be more likely to help you in the future if they know what they do is appreciated, and likely to make them feel loved.

Plenty of people are relatively thankless to others who help them out. People don't tend to like being around someone who is not appreciative. People help non-appreciative individuals out, only in the most grudging manner. They certainly don't give their all when they help.

If the nice things people do for someone else go unappreciated, then those people aren't likely to help out again - especially if they went out of their way to help, the first time.

Thank you words build friendships. Friendship is based on mutual appreciation. It's also based on mutual support. When you use thoughtful words for thank you note wording, you acknowledge your friend's support. You also make them feel really good about what they've done to help. You make them feel strong about themselves. And you also make them feel good about you. So it never hurts to use a few thoughtful words for a thank you note, any time someone helps you out, even if the note is just an email (or even an instant message).

Nothing helps you build and maintain friendships and ensure you have help in the future, like a few heart-felt thank you words.
