There is obviously more than one moving company out there, and picking the wrong one can hurt you. If this is your first long distance move, a good moving company should anticipate your questions. If the company is not working with you, find one that will. Moving is a long, detailed process, and you need all the help you can get.

There are three phases to moving: packing your old home, moving the people and belongings, and moving into your new home. It is an excellent idea to have a notebook that has every piece of information you have.

There are several options available when packing your old home.

Your moving company will have movers who can pack everything, load it in the truck, move it, and unpack everything at your new home. Each mover should be trained to take care of your belongings. The company should offer the option of allowing you to pack, so all they have to do is load the truck. A third alternative is to have the long distance moving company deliver a storage compartment. You pack your belongings, load everything in the unit, then the company delivers it to your new home.

It’s a good idea to get moving help.

There are plenty of places you can get good moving tips. Read everything you can. Doing your homework will make your life much easier.

You might consider starting services before you arrive at your new home unless you are going to be staying at a hotel. Even then, you need to keep up with where your belongs are, so utilities can be started when your belongings arrive. It is difficult to move into a home that has no electricity and/or running water.

Most utility companies let you do that before you arrive.

If you are shipping a vehicle, you might get a discount with the moving company you are using to move your belongings. If not, check out a dedicated auto transport company.

Make sure you understand how your vehicle will be moved. It is a good idea to request a flat-bed truck. It may be more expensive, but it’s worth it in the end. Ask what happens if there is any damage while in transit including a dead battery that might be the result of a door left open. This is probably the most expensive thing you will be moving, and you should make sure you understand the process.

Ultimately, most moving companies offer the same product. What separates the good from the bad is service. If you’re not getting the best service, contact on of the other many movers . After all, it’s your money, and you should expect the best.
