Sewing is one of the most enjoyable hobbies people, mostly household mothers, do on their free time. For beginners, it could be quite hard. It needs patience and most especially clear eyesight not unless you want to be pricked by a needle. Below are few popular sewing techniques you will surely enjoy.

1. Mend A Torn Seam –Obviously you need to locate the torn seam. Turn the clothing item inside out and pull gently at the seam to locate the hole. Then choose a needle. Use a middle-sized needle that matches the clothing. Cut a length of thread roughly as long as your arm. Wet one end of the thread to smooth the fibers together, push it through the hole at the top of the needle, and pull halfway through. Tie a small knot at the end of the thread. If you are sewing really tough material like denim, you can use a thimble to push the needle through without hurting your fingers. Push the needle through the seam just below the tear. Weave it through to the other side of the seam and back again. Gently pull the thread through, creating a running stitch. Continue this stitch along the length of the tear. End the stitch by tying two or three simple knots at the end of the stitch.

2. Sew A Sequin on Fabric – Place the needle and thread underside the fabric. Then place the sequin on top of the fabric where you want it to be sitting. Then push the needle up outside the sequin frame then draw it through the center of the sequin. Come back to the backside of the fabric. Cross the thread over the top of the sequin. Tie the ends of the thread together on the back side to create secure knot. Move on to the next sequin. The more that you sew, the faster this will become as it becomes second nature and you just go through the motion.

3. Fix A Snag in A Jumper – You will need a large blunt needle. Stop the buckling. Gently stretch the cloth. Then disperse the thread by positioning the jumper inside. Try to smooth the snag out again. Repeat this on the other side of the snag, dispersing the excess thread on the other direction. Disperse the excess along the road. And keep working and going. Then smooth it out. Gently stretch the jumper.

4. Sew On A Button – Choose a thread that matches the color of the cloth or the button. Then with the thread and needle together now, Place the button on top of the material where you intend to sew it into place. You can put a match or toothpick in between the button and the material to give it the necessary slack. Put the needle under the cloth then push it upward to the cloth and of the holes of the button. Push the needle down through the next hole on the button and through the material. Then keep going on pushing the needles to each of the holes of the button. End with the needle on the material side and secure it with a knot. Double-knot this end.

5. Sew on A Zipper – Measure the seam you would like to zip into, lay it flat when measuring. Then choose a zipper that matches or that looks good in that seam. Sew a basting stitch in the seam and press it open. Pin your zipper on the opposite side of the fabric. Center the teeth in your basting line and pin the zipper tape selvages beyond the opening. Make a straight stitch around the outside of the pinned-in zipper Make sure your stitching line is close the zipper teeth. Backstitch it across a few times. Pull out the basting stitches gently with a seam ripper. Don't go beyond the reinforced ends of the sewed-in zipper.
