Planning On Building A Raised Level Above Your Cape Cod Home?

Hiring your home improvement contractor to build a Raised Level above your Cape Cod home has a lot of advantages to suit your needs of you and your family. A Cape Cod home (a lot of people refer to it as a “cape”) usually has two bedrooms on the first floor besides the kitchen, dining area and a standard bathroom. As soon as you open the front door a staircase going upstairs lies right in front of you. However some capes even have the staircase located near the kitchen close to the center of your home. Upstairs, there’s usually 1 of 2 choices. The top floor either one large room or it’s split at the center to make two rooms. The trade mark ceiling line contained in the top floor of the typical cape is known for their low lying ceilings maxing out usually at seven to seven and a half feet ceiling height. New house construction ceiling height is minimum eight feet, so these ceilings are considered low. The unfortunate point here is where the knee wall slopes up inside the ceiling, this slanted ceiling area is more wasted space. It truly is a challenge to stand, walk, and even put furniture in the area nearby the knee walls. A knee wall is known as a short wall, usually four –five feet high. These knee walls are built inwards from the front and back wall of the home.

Talk to your nj home improvement contractor and discuss your options for an entirely new raised level. A raised level is simply removing the existing roof and any second floor walls down to the floor beams. Now your contractor will build all new construction from the floor upwards. The concept of building your raised LEVEL is to increase the floorspace that exists within your top floor. The original low ceiling height and two knee walls limited the functionality of the original top floor within a cape. Remember the 4’ knee walls are built inwards coming from the back and front wall often a minimum of four feet. This created a dead space and typically is in fact a tiny storage area that may be hardly accessible. The new layout will have full eight foot ceilings throughout. The layout will match the first floor outer perimeter walls. There are varied Raised Level floor layouts that can be customized for your personal home. Each home layout is incredibly unique. Your NJ home improvement contractor will have to customize this new layout while using sq footage that the house incorporates. Your personal home improvement contractor should design this new layout to ensure that floor plan will accommodate at least three bedrooms and one full bathroom. Also consider a cathedral ceiling with recessed lighting throughout the master bedroom. A Jack and Jill door inside the standard bathroom is also a very common option. A jack and Jill door is only a second door directly into the bathroom. Your second door should go out of your master bedroom directly into bathroom. The owners won't have to go down the hall to access the bathroom. This option is obviously a good match for those families that want a master bathroom but the budget just doesn't allow it.

Although a 3 bedroom, one bathroom is really a reasonably standard package, a four bedroom two bathroom with laundry will offer you the beneficial space for A growing family. The 4 bedroom market for raised levels is growing rapidly. With families getting larger, it's very reasonable to increase the floorspace of your respective raised level and improve your floorplan. Building above your attached garage or a new rear addition could get you this needed floor space. The value to renovate is cheaper in comparison to the cost to pack your stuff up, buy another house and possibly even renovate that newly bought house.

Most likely you agree that you never could have enough closets? When you are designing your raised level, the most asked question is, Can I fit more closets in my nowraised level?. The original capes had little closet space. The 2 first floor bedrooms had 2’ x 2’ closets if you want to call them closets. If you design your raised level, the master bedroom must have a walk in closet. If room allows, you need his/her separate walk in closets. The remaining bedrooms all must have their own unique over sized bi-fold door entry closet, enabling them easy accessibility to shelving and or hung garments. Inside the hall, if possible make an attempt to a linen closet near the new bathroom locations.

DON'T FORGET THE ATTIC Considering that the original capes had low ceilings which were built contrary to the roof rafters at the slope of a typical cape roof. This usually meant that they had little or no attic. Raised Level packages should all include an attic access drop down stair entry. This allows anyone to simply pull down on a chord connected with a folding stair unit that collapses when folded. Pull down at the rope, the ladder unfolds gaining access into your new attic. Lift the stairs up which in turn folds back into the ceiling. This attic serves several purposes. Generally the new furnace components are created in the new attic neatly tucked away. Also, the new attic can be used for even more storage . Make sure your nj home improvement contractor provides lighting and the necessary electric in your personal attic. In many areas this is mandatory as a way to meet code requirements.
