Indoor Pool Construction

Visitors: 370

Indoor pool construction s quite a complex project, but it's still something that a competent DIYer will be capable of completing. An indoor pool is a very useful addition to your house, it's a great way to get some much needed exercise. It's also very helpful with physical therapy if you suffer from many medical conditions such as arthritis or sclerosis.

Building an indoor pool will have its own unique challenges because you are dealing with a large body of water inside your house. You must protect the walls of your house to prevent the pool causing any damage to your home.

Tools and Materials Needed

Vapor Barriers

Step 1 - Locating the Pool

The first thing that you will need to do is locate the pool, this pool could be located pretty much anywhere. If you have an existing unused room then this might be suitable for a pool, in this case you will not need to do anything else. If you are looking at building a new building to house the indoor pool then you will need to consult a professional.

Building a new structure for your indoor pool will be very costly and could end up costing more than the pool itself to build.

Step 2 - Preparing the Building

It's very important to note that the building must be capable of holding a pool. A lot of the damage will be caused by evaporation which will cause the indoor pool room to be humid. Your structure must be capable of dealing with this humidity. All materials must be rust and rot proof. This is possible in a new building, however when building a pool in an existing room it can be difficult. Vapor barriers should be installed on the interior walls to prevent this water causing any damage

Step 3 - Insulation

Water resistant insulation needs to be installed inside the walls and ceilings where you are locating your pool.

Step 4 - Windows

he windows inside your indoor poolroom must be double or triple glazed for insulation, you should not use standard single pane windows because these will not offer the insulation required and will increase heating costs.

Step 5 - Dehumidifier

A dehumidifier and ventilating system should be installed in your pool room. This will remove water from the air which should prevent mildew from growing and it should also make the atmosphere much more comfortable. To reduce fogged up windows allow for warm dry air to circulate around them.

Step 6 - Building the Pool

When building the pool itself it's probably a good idea to hire a specialist contractor. Pools are unique projects and need to be done properly, they're very expensive to build and it's vital that they are done right first time. Most pools are made from concrete which is then tiled.

Step 7 - Filling the Pool

The pool should now be filled with water and tested for leaks. If there are any signs of leaks then you will need to try to get to the bottom of the problem. You can then enjoy your pool and have great fun doing it.
