Spring Cleaned and Ready for Summer – Plumbs and Drains

The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, summer is definitely here! While the season means warmer weather, it’s also time for some basic pipe maintenance. Below are a few summer plumbing tips that every homeowner needs to keep in mind. However, make sure that you leave all major repairs to the professionals. These problems can be exacerbated in cities or states where the summer months mean heat waves or humid weather. If you are a plumber in Toms River or a plumber in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, you’ve got your work cut out for you!

Often, it’s easy to let these small issues slip your mind as pipes are hidden and out of view. While major repairs are jobs for professionals, homeowners can do a little maintenance themselves. These plumbing tips can help you catch minor problems before they grow into major ones. This can save you the hassle of watching a $5 repair job turn into a $500 overhaul job.

When thinking about where to start in your house, start with some of the appliances which use water pipes. One good place to start is the washing machine. During the summer months, washing machines typically work overtime. Before the season starts, give the connections on your washing machine a visual inspection.

Specifically, washing machine connections don’t last forever. Once they break, you may have a watery mess to clean up. Therefore, make sure the washing machine hoses are flexible and not brittle. Also, make sure the hoses don’t drip at the connections to the faucet and the washing machine itself.

With the warmer weather in summer, you can turn down your water heater. Unfortunately, most people don’t know they can manually turn down the temperature setting. In fact, simply look for the temperature dial at the base of the unit. Turn it down to extend the life of the water heater and save money on your gas or energy bill. If you’re in a muddle of how and where to do this, it may just be easier calling in a licensed plumber. The summer is a great time for you to check for leaks around your home. In addition, start with checking sinks and toilets. Leaks can cost a lot of money on your water bill when you don’t fix them. In addition, check under your sinks to see if any of the pipes are leaking.

Additionally, consider turning down your water heater ocean county when you travel out of town. Set it low enough to save money, but not so low that bacteria starts to build up. Furthermore, there’s no reason to make the unit work overtime when you will be away. Lastly, if you’re enjoying your holiday at the beach, it’s important to know who to call if your accommodations experience plumbing ocean county issues. Shore side properties are at higher exposure risk to rust, and for that reason, knowing a number for a licensed plumber in Ocean County may be useful if you’re living or vacationing on the Jersey Shore.
