Avoid Drinking Water Contamination With These Tips

Who has to worry about drinking water contamination? We all do. If we don't drink enough freshwater, our bodies suffer. If what we drink is full of impurities, we suffer even more.

What are we going to do about it? Well, for numerous reasons, buying bottled waters is not the right choice. I could write a book about the hazards of bottled water, both to our personal health and to the environment.

I could write another book about the unethical business practices of companies like Nestle, the parent company of many of the popular brands. I could probably write a book about why point-of-use or home purifiers are the right choice, but I'll try to sum it up briefly.

The types of drinking water contamination that you must deal with may be many. All of us have some level of chemical contaminants in our source. Those of us serviced by a public treatment facility have chlorine and the hazardous byproducts created by chlorination and other types of chemical disinfection.

People with wells have common groundwater contaminants, such as benzene, lead and copper. They may also have bacteria and other microbial contaminants that cause waterborne illnesses.

It is strongly suggested that well owners have them tested, prior to drinking. The correct purification method can then be chosen. If disinfection is needed, you no longer have to dump chemicals into your system. You can buy an affordable UV filtration device for your home.

The other types of drinking water contamination can be handled with a selective filtration multi-stage purifier. They are advanced enough to remove hazardous compounds without spoiling the taste or removing healthy minerals that may be present in your area's groundwater.

For many years, reverse osmosis was the recommended purifier, but now we realize that the method does not remove chemical contaminants. It does, however, remove any minerals that may be present in your source.

The best choice, today, is selective filtration with granular carbon to remove chlorine and other chemicals and an adsorptive block to target chemicals that are particularly hard to remove with other methods. In addition, the devices use micron particle filtration to remove tiny cysts and ion exchange to remove copper, lead and other metallic ions.

Those hazardous and bad tasting ions are replaced with sodium and potassium. This step further improves taste, balances electrolyte content and pH level.

It's the best way to deal with drinking water contamination for your health, the environment and your wallet. It's the healthiest choice because you can filter the waters that you cook with and use to wash fresh produce, as well as those that you drink.

It's the right choice for the environment because you can bottle your own in reusable glass containers, no water is wasted, no electricity needed and no load of plastic bottles to put in the recycling bins. You will have extra money in your wallet, because you'll save thousands of dollars a year over buying bottled, just to drink.

It's the best way that I know of to protect ourselves from drinking water contamination. What do you think?
