Which Are the Water Purification Systems Best Deal?

You can spend thousands on purifying your water. Finding water purification systems best deal is critical, if you want to purify your water on a budget. Fortunately for you, you don't have to spend an arm and a leg to have clean, pure water. No matter what types of pollutants you're facing, there are reasonably priced water purification systems out there for you. Let's find out about them.

I don't know about you, but when I thought of water purification systems in the past, I though of distillers. According to what you read, they are the gold standard for water filtering. I mean, this is what scientists use in labs for critical experiments.

Distillers are, however, the most expensive water purifiers on the market. You can spend anywhere from $1,000 to over $3,000 for an on the counter or under the counter model that can give you enough water per day to drink and maybe to cook with. After spending this much money, you would think distillers are good for all kinds of contaminants, wouldn't you? Well, this is not quite the truth.

One reason distillers are not your water purification systems best deal is that they should not be used with chlorinated water. Chlorine is the disinfectant that's put in our water in public treatment plants. Chlorine kills the bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms that would otherwise infect our water. Chlorine can also combine with certain organic impurities to form carcinogenic chemicals like chloroform. These chemicals are very volatile-they vaporize easily when heated. Since distillers work by heating water, they can vaporize these chemicals with the water and collect them with the supposedly pure water.

Not good!

There are other, cheaper water filtering systems that are as good as or almost as good as distillers that cost one tenth the price. Carbon/ceramic filtering systems are an example.

You can buy a good carbon/ceramic filter for one faucet for about $100. That's a lot less than a distiller. Also, these filters can filter out all the volatile organic chemicals from the water that distillers can't. Not only that, but carbon/ceramic filters are virtually maintenance free! All you have to do is to change their cartridge ever six months or so.

What's even better is that you can buy a carbon/ceramic type filter for the whole house for less than you can buy a small on the counter distiller! That way you can not only have pure drinking water, but also you can bathe in filtered water. And believe me, you have not lived until you've bathed in filtered water. Turns out these carbon/ceramic filters might easily be your water purification systems best deal!
