Tiles have long been a popular choice for finishing walls and floors due to the fact their practical, versatile and incredibly hard-wearing. However, when it comes to wall tiles, there are plenty of possibilities for incorporating them into your home interior design that doesn't just include the obvious ones.

Practical and stylish bathrooms

To start with the most common use for porcelain or ceramic wall tiles is in bathrooms. Almost every home will have some form of tiling on their bathroom walls, whether it’s a splash back above the sink or a floor-to-ceiling tiled shower cubicle.

The main reason for choosing wall tiles in these areas is because they’re water-resistant, durable and easy to clean. However, they also have a wonderful aesthetic appeal, especially given that ceramic and porcelain wall tiles now come in a wide range of shapes, colours and sizes. This allows you to create sleek, versatile and stylish wall surfaces that suit your needs, while at the same time providing long-lasting protection against water and everyday use.

Sleek and functional kitchens

Naturally, another popular area to use ceramic or porcelain wall tiles is in the kitchen. On a practical level they work great to protect wall surfaces above worktops, cookers and sinks from typical spills and splashes, and can simply be wiped-clean to have them looking like new again. In addition they can also help give kitchens a modern and clean finish, tying the whole room together.

Feature fireplaces

While the above are the most obvious and common places for wall tiles they aren’t the only ones. Another fantastic way to use them effectively is with fireplaces and mantelpieces and they’re also incredibly practical from a cleaning point of view too.

It doesn’t matter if you have a modern fireplace or a period-style hearth, you can create a natural focal point in the room brilliantly with the right tiling. Choosing tiling that matches the fireplace style and your decor will all work to enhance the feel of the room; and incorporating designer tiles can be a great way to really accentuate your fireplace as a feature.

Arty walls

Following on from feature fireplaces, you can also get creative with wall tiles by using them as a form of wall art. Creating a tiled feature wall in lounges, dining rooms or even bedrooms will make an unusual, eye-catching and interesting talking point.

If you’re not keen on having a whole wall finished in porcelain wall tiles, it’s also possible to create smaller wall artwork that can look like a painting or wall motif, or use wall tiles to frame the edge of mirrors.

The key to successfully using designer tiles is to think beyond their practical uses and embrace them throughout your home in a way that suits your style. With a great deal of choice, you’re sure to find the right wall tiles for the job.
