Over the years, we have become accustomed to using the power grid for our electricity needs. In the past, the alternate energy options available were too expensive to even consider for residential use. However, in recent times, a lot of development has taken place in the field of renewable technologies such as solar and wind power.

Solar energy has especially become more affordable and a lot of people are already using it in their homes. The use of solar energy is also far better for the environment compared to other forms like coal and gas.

Solar energy for homes should be thought of as an investment that you and the environment around you will benefit from in the long run.

There are many different ways in which you can use solar energy in homes. Water can be heated with the help of a solar water heating system. This system absorbs the rays of the sun and stores the water in well-insulated tanks to insure that the heat loss is minimal. You can also heat your swimming pool with this system.

You can use PV(photovoltaic) cells to convert solar radiation into electricity. This energy can be used in place of the electricity coming from the power grid. Solar energy can also be stored with the help of batteries that are attached to the solar energy system. This stored energy can be used when direct solar energy is not available.

Solar fountains can be bought for less than $100. Solar fountains add to the beauty of a garden or lawn. The water will flow when there is sunlight and cut back when the sun disappears

Solar lamps cost around $40; you can charge them during sunlight hours and use them later for reading or just as a cool light.

Solar flashlights, landscape lighting and solar hat fans are some of the other devices that are powered by solar energy.

With an increase in environmental awareness and rising fuel prices, the concept of using solar energy for homes is becoming more popular. .because of it's cleanness and renewability and the world depletion of oil and other fossil fuels.
