If you have bought an older home there is a chance that you may need to have your home rewired because the wiring may not be sufficient to meet all the demands that are being put on it by the high consumption of electricity caused by our modern lifestyles. Yes, rewiring is a major job and it can be expensive but it may an essential expense to keep your family safe. There are some factors that can help you figure out if your home needs rewiring but only an electrician in San Diego can tell you for sure after they do an inspection of your homes electrical wiring.

Here are some factors that can help you decide if you should have your electrical wiring checked by a San Diego electrician.

• Old wiring in a home can degrade and with the average age of a home in the United States being just over thirty years old this can mean that your electrical wiring could be degrading. If you have bought an older home and know it has its original wiring it is time to see if it needs rewired.
• The wiring systems that were installed between the fifties and eighties are not designed to deal with the type of demands that that the electrical usage of the twenty-first century puts on those wires. They are not adequate for the number and size of appliances that we use every day. When it is an older home, the usage of today could be putting a big strain on the wiring so if your home is at or over capacity it may be time for a rewire job.
• Unlike in years past, today if you plan to sell your home mortgage lenders and buyers want to know that the home they are considering buying is wired safely and can handle the electrical demands of today. Most of these older homes will not meet the National Electrical Code standards. If you have an older home having it rewired to meet the electrical demands of today will help sell it faster.
• It is a hazard if you overload your electrical outlets. This can lead to electrical shocks, overheating, or fire. When you do a rewire you can add more switches and outlets along with bringing your home up-to-date.

There are also some signs that your might have to hire an electrician San Diego can include:

• Electrical shocks from appliances, switches, and sockets
• Worn electrical cable
• Cords and outlets becoming warm when in use
• Having fuses regularly blow
• Power outages that are regular
• Having two-pronged instead of three-prong outlets

Remember this is not a job for a homeowner to do but a professional San Diego electrician .
