One of the cheapest ways to give your home a profoundly effective face lift is to get out your paint brushes and paint. And an incredibly effective way to ensure that you are truly happy with your efforts and to maximize your return on your time and the small cost of the paint is the clever choice of color scheme. Follow these simple tips and get it right and you will be delighted with the outcome.
It’s not a very difficult thing to do, and it can end up making your house look very nice indeed. A color scheme is not, as some people seem to think, the same color used throughout. It is rather a scheme of colors, complementary to each other, that evokes the kind of emotions, or feelings that you wish for each room.
Take, for example, your living room. If you happen to live in colder climes, you might want to make your living room look warm and inviting. And the easiest way to do that is by applying a warm, earthen tone to the room. A combination of the correct earthen shades could give the room a warm, inviting glow.
Similarly, your bedroom could be done up in a cooler scheme. Shades and hues of blue or white usually work best. Not only do they make the room look cooler, they also manage to make it look bigger and more comfortable – more snug, somehow.
The thing to note in all this, however, is that a color scheme can be applied to the room at large. This means not just the drapes or the furniture. It also includes the carpets, the bed sheets, the pillows and other odds and ends in the room.
Even better, these schemes can, and indeed should, be changed with the changing times. For example, a different color scheme may be applied in the summer, and an entirely different one in the winter.
Try and accessorize your home with knick knacks that go along with whatever color scheme you have chosen. Over time, you’d find that you are able to choose not just the colors, but indeed the entire atmosphere of your home. Done well, such color schemes characterize a home, and in many ways, help turn your house into a home.
Of course, the choice is entirely up to you – what we mean is, you could have the same color scheme for the entire house at large, or a different one for each room. Whatever you choose to do, have fun while coloring up your home!
