Medical Coding and Transcription

This involves translating what the doctor mumbles into the Dictaphone into a written document that can go in the patient’s chart. Pros: You can earn good money while learning valuable information about the healthcare system.

Cons: You need specialized training which is often costly, and it may take some persistence to get your first clients.

Arts and Crafts

If you have a talent for making dolls, painting plates, beading beautiful handbags, or drawing cute caricatures, this may be the niche for you. When you set a price on your items, don’t forget to take the costs of supplies and labor it into account.

Pros: You get to express yourself and do something you love; the internet allows you to sell goods online rather than having to display your wares at ninety-degree festivals and art shows.

Cons: It can be hard to set a price that is fair to you yet does not scare customers off. Getting established can be difficult.


If you’re a communicator at heart, why not write for online and brick and mortar businesses. To do this paid work at home, you’ll need a basic grasp of grammar, spelling, and the flow of the English language.

Pros: Lots of sites offer paying jobs for writers, so finding work should not be that difficult.

Cons: Many jobs don’t pay very well. Writing is a great paid work at home job to supplement income, but it should not be your only source of money.

Stay at home jobs allow you to work while raising children. They all have their pros and cons, but if you do not want to miss that first step or that first word, they’re a great deal.
