Like any Christian who wants to work at home, you may be wondering if there's some way to integrate a home based business with your Christian faith. Well, the fact is if you're a Christian and you work at home, you don't separate out those two. They go together.
Where do you start? Let's go over some steps you should take.
First of all, pray about your decision. What has God laid on your heart? Are you entrenched in a job that pays the bills but offers you no particular satisfaction? Are you finding that quality family time is just a fantasy and that you can hardly get the basics done before you fall exhausted into bed at night? Or maybe you have a particular idea for a product or service that you really think would take off if you could just get time to develop it.
God knows the plans He has for you, to give you a future and a hope. Take your dreams to him and lay them down, then be ready as He begins to direct your steps, as He has for me.
Secondly, look at your purpose. I hope it’s not to get rich quick, but to serve others with sincere value. How can you bring real value to others with what you’re hoping to do? Of course you need an income and there are many Proverbs about prosperity resulting from quality work and diligent effort. But get clear on exactly what you’d like to offer to the marketplace and why. This will be unique to you, based on your skills, background, and passions.
Next, do a brain dump. Just get it all out on paper. What are your ideas? What are related ideas? Who do you know who’s doing something similar or has expertise to help you? What’s your income goal and time frame? What resources do you have now? What you done before that you really enjoyed? What’s your budget to get started? Where could you learn more? Just you and a yellow pad, write it all down. Don’t worry if it’s messy.
Next, you got it, continue praying. There is no wisdom in this world, no matter what expert you consult, that knows you as intimately as your Heavenly Father. Start doing your due diligence. As a Christian, even if you’re going to work at home, you want to be equally yoked with potential partners, vendors, and advisors. That’s not to say that everyone will be Christians, but check out your sources for their reputation.
Then trust and obey. Start taking action with what God shows you, with where you can start today. Don’t spend weeks and months wondering if you can do this. As He opens avenues for you to pursue, start down that path. As I’ve discovered, each bend in the path brings new opportunities, new friends and business prospects, and new learning to help me prosper as a home-based Christian entrepreneur.
