Losing weight can be a daunting task! You may do great the first couple of weeks, but slowly start losing your motivation. Then you begin to ponder how other people have been successful enough to reach their goals. What do they do to achieve success?

It is critical to set a goal to strive for once you decide to work on losing weight. Are you looking to shed lots of pounds, or do you just want to reclaim clothing that has not been worn for many years? Are you interested in feeling more fit and improving your overall health? Giving yourself concrete goals gives you something to strive for.

Keep a record of your progress. Write things down, such as caloric intake, foods you ingest and beverages you choose. It's a good idea to keep a journal and to weigh yourself at least once per week. You should also make a diary of the food you consume daily. Knowing all the details are right there in black and white serves to keep you on track.

Keep healthy snacks with you in case you get hungry during the day to prevent yourself from slipping up. Otherwise, you may be tempted by fast food or junk food. Planning your meals ahead of time and packing your lunch can also help you save money.

The secret to successful, lasting weight loss is a combination of nutritious eating habits coupled with a good exercise program. It is important that you exercise three times a week or more. If this has been where you have failed in the past, plan instead to incorporate exercise into things you already enjoy. Ask your friends to walk with you. Short hikes on a nature trail or even just a walk through the neighborhood park can satisfy your thirst for the great outdoors and get you some exercise! If you love to dance, why not give a dance class a whirl and practice some new steps.

The first and most important step is to get rid of all the unhealthy food from your home and vow that it's not allowed back in. You can't give into temptation if rich, fatty foods aren't available. Stock your kitchen full of healthy foods you love. If you make it difficult to grab and eat unhealthy, fat-filled junk food, you will soon find yourself resisting the urge to consume it.

Get friends in on the action. Your friends are sure to want to help. If you are surrounded with positivity and people who support you, your chances of success will increase dramatically. They can give you the emotional support you need to stay focused. Try reaching out to them if you aren't having a good day.
