Weight Loss Plans For Teens - Not Every Method Works For Teens

Overweight teenagers are looking everywhere for weight loss plans for teens. The problem is that most of the time they are offered ineffective or even unhealthy ways to lose weight. When you are a teenager your body is still developing and you need to be healthy for your body to keep developing. This article discusses some of the weight loss methods that do not work well for teens from starvation diets to vegetarian diets and the unsafe use of laxatives.

Experts agree that the starvation diet can be dangerous for teens. This diet involves a great reduction in calories intake. It usually causes weight gain, because at first you lose weight rapidly, then the weight loss slows down. Less calories cause lack of energy and tiredness. This combined with the hunger will cause you to crave unhealthy food more than ever. So the natural thing to do then is just quit the diet and start overeating. A teenager or anyone who tries the starvation diet more than once can end up having trouble maintaining a normal weight, because this method of losing weight can lower your metabolic rate. The point is a teenager is developing and his body just needs the calories to keep growing and developing.

Some teenagers choose to become vegetarians so they can lose weight. The thing most of them do not take into consideration is that being a vegetarian is not just being someone who does not eat meat. Meat is a source of different minerals and vitamins. So when someone stops eating meat he will have to compensate the deficiency with the right combination of vegetarian food. Most teenagers just stop eating meat.

Another method teenagers are using is taking laxative supplements or pills to lose weight. This is a dangerous method. The weight you are losing is water and not fat. The laxative will reduce the amount of nutrients, minerals and vitamins that the body absorbs. As a result the body will be dehydrated and weak.
