How to Lose Weight Without Going on a Fad Diet

While fad diets might work for a quick result the minute you go off of the diet you will pile the weight back on. Losing weight and then maintaining that weight loss is about a lifestyle change instead of a quick fix. Here are a few steps that will help you avoid the fad diet craze and get on the right track to losing weight.

Step #1: Set real goals
If your overall goal is to lose 100 pounds you need to break that down into stages of weight loss. Having only a large goal to look at will become daunting and might cause you to slip. Take about 5% of your overall goal and set that as a goal you want to loose every four weeks. So if your goal is 100 pounds then for the first four weeks your goal will be 5 pounds.

Step #2: Restrict your calorie intake
If you can cut 500-1000 calories out of your diet you will see that the pounds will begin to melt off easily. You can also try to exercise to burn some extra calories. Not only will exercise make you feel great it will also help you to lose more weight.

Step #3: Get off the couch
If you are a person who has a low activity level it's time to get off the couch and get moving. Find something you enjoy doing and get active. If you're not sure if you will like an activity give it a shot, if you don't enjoy it move on to something else.
