Each pound of muscle you have on your body burns 50 calories per day. This means that simply adding 10 lbs of muscle mass will have you burning 500 extra calories per day or a grand total of 3500 per week!


There are two types of exercise you can do to boost metabolism. First is Cardio.

These types of exercise include running, jogging, swimming, biking and dancing. These types of cardio use up lots of energy and keep your metabolism revved up for about 24 hours after the exercise is done.

However the real metabolism boosting exercise is resistance training. And yes ladies this is even (especially) true for you. When you resistance train you get not only a longer metabolism boost (48 hours) than with cardio, but you also get the added benefit of building some muscle which of course boosts your metabolism whether you are working out or not. This is the real benefit of resistance training.

Start with a simple program of consisting of 3-4 times per week for 20-30 minutes per session, to boost your metabolism and promote your muscle growth.
