When it comes to Omega 3, everyone knows that fish is a great source of this amazing fatty acid, but what is most commonly misunderstood about Omega 3 is that fish cannot produce it; no animal can for that matter, only a plant can.
The reason that fish are associated with Omega 3 is the simple fact that they eat so much algae and seaweed that contains the essential fatty acid that their body is just naturally full of it. This does not mean that fish are the only source it just means that it is the easiest and most readily available source for Omega 3 fatty acids.
There are a great number of foods that contain Omega 3 including olives and pumpkins. However, it is pumpkin seeds and extra virgin olive oil that is especially high in in Omega 3. Other oils which are a great source for Omega 3 include canola, corn and flax seed oils. While the first is a great flavoring oil, the second can replace butter and the third is just great for cooking with and in.
Furthermore there are many popular nuts that are high in Omega 3 like the walnut and the peanut. These along with sunflower and pumpkin seeds give you something to munch on when you are hungry but are too busy to prepare any food.
The foods containing Omega 3 fatty acids are not restricted to the above, you can also eat boiled broccoli, cauliflower and cabbage to get your Omega 3. Along with these, you have romaine lettuce, brussels sprouts, green beans and even spinach which are all excellent sources of this protein.
What about fruits like the strawberry? If you cannot stand the taste of fish, maybe a strawberry jam and peanut butter sandwich is right up your alley, and if so, you'll be pleased to know that these are also foods that contain Omega 3.
With so many choices of foods as well as so many benefits associated with the increased consumption of Omega 3 fatty acids, more people should be looking into adding it to their daily diet as a means of living a longer, healthier and more active life; unless of course you have a particular reason not to live a long, healthy life.
