Getting Enough Rest - How to Get To Sleep

Each part of the human body has a part to play in maintaining health. While a busy lifestyle can make it tough, getting enough rest is something that the whole body needs. It is essential that we give our digestive systems time to rest, our muscles need a break and so do our brains. Lack of proper rest will lead to a situation where our bodies break down so it is important not to be neglectful of our bodies’ need for rest.

Often when we are not feeling well, or have become over-tired, we find it more difficult to sleep at night. A number of things can help us find it easier to get to sleep. Taking a warm bath in the evening, followed by a gentle massage, especially along the spine, may help. Relaxing the nerves and muscles this way can sometimes ensure a good nights sleep.

Another thing that can be beneficial is a hot foot bath, this works by drawing blood away from the brain. You have probably heard that a glass of warm milk can do the trick and that is another remedy that can work wonders. A plain, even bland diet can help when indigestion seems to be the problem at night. Weirdly enough, sleeping without a pillow and on a harder bed can even do the trick.

Make sure there is plenty of fresh air in the bedroom. If your mind seems to race with thoughts, try focusing on your breathing and repeat a phrase to yourself over and over. Something else that can sometimes work is to close the left nostril by pressing on it with your finger, and the take four deep breaths. Alternate nostrils and do the same on the right. Repeat this about four times. Next breathe slowly through both nostrils and begin counting your breaths, you should not have to count a lot of them before you will be snoozing. Sleeping pills should only be taken on the advice of a doctor, some of the ingredients can be harmful to your heart.

Keep your bedroom at a comfortable temperature and make sure your feet stay warm at night. Cold feet can certainly lead to sleeplessness. If this is a frequent problem, you can wear socks to bed or even a pair of footed pajamas. Yes, they do come in adult sizes and there are even men’s footed pajamas.

Eating balanced, nutritious meals and drinking plenty of water can help to induce a good night's sleep and exercise will help to tire you out.
