Skin Care Treatments Or Plastic Surgery?

A century ago, having wrinkles and age spots were nothing to be ashamed of. But in today’s society, a youthful appearance is strongly preferred. Some people just use skin creams and treatments to fight the signs of aging, while others turn to plastic surgery procedures. Which route is the best way to go?

Today’s skin treatments

Over the past couple decades there have been a number of non-surgical skin care treatments developed to help you look younger. There are dermatological skin lasers which can improve the appearance of age spots and skin blemishes. Injectable fillers like Restylane and Juvederm treatments can be used to enlarge the lips and plump up the cheeks (instead of getting cheek implants). Then of course there are Botox treatments, which it seems everyone in Hollywood is using these days!

Today’s plastic surgery

During this same period, there have been a number of major advancements in some plastic surgery procedures, but others (like rhinoplasty) have changed little over the years. For those desiring a drastic change in their appearance, usually plastic surgery procedures are the only way to achieve that. For example, if a 70 year old woman wants to take 10 years off her face, she will probably need a full face lift in order to do so.

Which route is best?

Both skin treatments and plastic surgery procedures have their pros and cons.

When it comes to plastic surgery, the biggest hurdle for many is the price. Some procedures cost upwards of $20,000 which is more than some Americans make over the course of an entire year! The other drawback is that the results are not always desirable. For example, on this rhinoplasty forum you will find more dis-satisfied patients than satisfied ones. The same can be said for cheek implants, which often look very unnatural.

On the other hand, professional skin treatments like Botox and Restylane are still expensive, but are still a lot more affordable than most plastic surgeries. Generally these skin treatments garner favorable results, but the biggest drawback is that they can only do so much. For example, if you have saggy skin on your face, there is no way to fix that using non-surgical treatments.

So ultimately, both surgery and skin treatments have their pros and cons. What’s best for one person may not be for another, so your best bet is to do your research and read as many customer reviews and message boards as possible in order to make an informed decision.
