The ever-increasing popularity of men’s skin care

The men’s skin care market is still one of the fastest growing market sectors in Australia, according to leading skin care experts.

ACNielsen/ScanTrack data shows that supermarkets sales in male skincare were around $9.2million in the 12 months to July 2006, and growing at around 75.4 per cent.

And, according to the owners of Sydney skin care clinics, their clientele now includes almost as many men as women, and male skincare is their fastest growing market.

“We see a lot more men who are interested in good grooming than we used to even a few years ago. Laser hair removal used to be our biggest men’s skin care category, but now, we also see many men for acne skin care, pigmentation treatments, peels, acne scar removal and even for skin rejuvenation, ” says one clinic owner.

It seems men are becoming much for conscious about their looks, and they are also aware that there are many different, discrete, things they can do to improve their image in their lunch hour, without any recovery time.

“We are becoming a very image-conscious society, and this does not just extend to women. Men are aware they need to look their best to get that job or promotion, and women expect their men to take care of themselves, ” the clinic owner explains.

“We actually see a lot of men who are sent to our Sydney Skin Clinic by their girlfriends. ”

Where as men used to suffer in silence when it came to ingrown hairs, shaving rash and acne, now, they visit a skin care clinic to solutions to these common problems.

“Men are increasingly more willing to seek out advice on acne treatments or blackhead removal, and on male skincare routines, and Sydney men, in particular, are open to Mens Skin Care” , and even to more intense treatments like peels for acne and blackhead removal. ”

And, as the data suggests, men are increasingly incorporating skin care into their daily routines, with the expansion of dedicated men’s skin care ranges.

“Although, the fact that marketing makes you think you need separate man’s and woman’s skin care is misleading!” the clinic owner says. “Men and women can use the same skin care, depending on skin type. ”
