Visitors: 169

There are many medicinal herbs for skin treatment. Our skin is the largest organ in the body and has many important functions to play. Yet the skin is often ignored by many individuals. Besides protecting us from the external environment, it prevents fluid loss from the body, maintains our temperature and allows us to sense the outside world. Plus it reflects what we feel inside.

All of will develop some type of skin problem at some point in our lives. For the minor skin problems no great care is required; but for major problems like fine lines, wrinkles, sun spots, acne, acne scars, oily or dry skin, one does require some type of treatment.

Rather than select creams and ointments made from synthetic chemicals, many individuals are now selecting medicinal herbs for skin problems. There are a whole range of herbal skin care products out on the market. These herbal creams/lotions can be used to treat a wide variety of skin disorders. One of the reasons herbal products are preferred is because unlike the synthetic creams and lotions, they do not contain any toxic chemicals. Herbal products are made from naturally occurring oils, plants and flowers.

If you have dry skin it is essential to select herbal skin care products with emollient (soothing) properties. In general emollients help clean, soften and soothe the skin. Further these compounds also help to replace the skin's natural oils.

If you have oily skin, it is important to select herbs which have astringent qualities. These herbs can close of the skin pores and decrease the production of oils from the glands.

If you just want to maintain a normal health skin, there are a variety of other herbal skin care products that one can use.

While one can buy most herbal skin products in a beauty shop, you can even make a herbal extract at home. One has to buy the plant or the leaf and simply place it in hot water for 20-30 minutes. When the leaf is cooled down, it can then be applied on to the skin. This home made remedy is useful to treat burns, abrasions and eczema. Some of the more frequently used medicinal herbs for skin include Aloe Vera, astragalus, lavender, papaya peel, rose petals, orange peel, skull cap and avena sativa.

Of all the above mentioned herbal products, there is not a single one which can be used to treat all types of skin disorders. However, a recently developed product known as Phytessence Wakame comes close to being the ideal herbal agent for all types of skin problems. Phytessence Wakame is a type of kelp native to Japan. Wakame has been cultivated for centuries in Japan and has had a long tradition of use for treatment of skin disorders and also for maintaining normally healthy skin.

Besides being rich in minerals and vitamins, Phytessence also has the ability to inhibit an enzyme called hyaluronidase. By inhibiting this enzyme, phytessence can maintain the integrity of hyaluronic acid, elastin and collagen fibers. This leads to strengthening of the collagen and elastin bonds. When the skin is tightened there is loss of fine lines and wrinkles. The result is a skin that appears young, smooth and youthful

When Phytessence is applied daily to the skin, it also acts like a moisturizer, heals the skin and is a potent anti oxidant. This strong anti oxidant activity also protects against the UV rays of the sun. One can even combine a variety of other herbal skin care products with Phytessence.

If you want to maintain a healthy skin and look young and refreshed, the choice is simple, Use phytessence Wakame- you will never regret it.
