During this period of quitting, you are actually fighting three battles. You are fighting the habit, the physical and psychological addiction.

Habit

Every time you smoke, you are actually conditioning and forming a habit. Be it whether you are drinking coffee or smoking at different places. Soon enough, as soon as you drink coffee, or visit certain places, your mind and body has program you to light up. These are actually habits you have formed.

So to overcome these habits, you will need to get out of your normal routine. If you have always smoked after drinking alcohol or coffee, stop drinking alcohol and coffee.

Physical Addiction

Smoking is a physical addiction due to the substance of nicotine, one of the most addictive drugs on earth. Nicotine is naturally found in tobacco plants. When taken in small amount, nicotine can stimulate you and when taken it large amount, nicotine can relax you.

Thus, this is the reason why a lot of people smoke. They believe this can be a quick fix to their stress. The biggest problem for nicotine is the withdrawal symptoms.

Once your body is exposed to nicotine, your body will want more and more of it, resulting to cravings. If you do not feed your body with it, it will go through very uncomfortable changes and as a result, you experiencing agitation, anxiety, anger, depression, grouchiness, etc.

Psychological Addiction

Have you ever find yourself smoking when you are facing unpleasant feelings or emotions? For example, you smoke when you feel lonely, bored, frustrated or angry?

Chances are that you may have done so. This is because you have already become dependant on cigarettes for psychological support. You believe that it helps you emotionally as smoking can relax you.
