Fad Diets How to Avoid Them

We've all experienced fads, flights of fancy that affect us and at the time, look very serious and important but ultimately are at best frivolous and at worst a waste of time. With respect to dieting the above remains accurate. Fad diets are nonsensical, idiotic and at worst a waste of life.

What are fad diets? Well we see them advertised everyday. They mainly stick to one kind of food which is supposed to stand for the elixir of life. This food mainly has no nutritional value on it's own but has great potential as an economic value to those who market it. It is mainly promoted by people whose main goal is not fitness or health but increased sales and profit.

Some fad diets surprisingly work, but not because of the scientific excellence of their method. They mainly make you lose weight by the decreased level of appetite one experiences from eating the same kind of food day in and day out.

But lose weight is the point right? Not at any cost. Fad diets may or may not be effective in the short term but they are positively lethal in the long run. Do not trust their legitimate looking ads. They usually are accompanied with books and pseudo scientists, not to mention people who claim to have lost a great amount of weight due to these miracle diets. Again sometimes their marketing is so thorough that advice from recognized professionals may sometimes go unhindered.

How do you spot the fad from the real thing? It's not a precise art but some things may be tell tale signs of a food fad.

If the diet exaggerates the virtue of a particular food to the detriment of other types of food watch out. This is especially to a marketed, branded cure all which can only be gotten from a certain company. Most nutrients exist in nature and the best food is thus natural and can be got from a tree near you.

Another sign is when some foods are deliberately branded ‘bad’ or harmful to your system. Only poison is harmful to your system and most foods are not poison except some mushrooms cooked in imprecise conditions. Everything can be poison if taken in excess quantities so a diet that limits you to one kind of food is likely to ill affect you.

Fad diets detract from the true reason for dieting which is getting to learn proper nutrition for healthy living. They may work in the short run but in the long run are unsustainable and may lead to aging disorders for instance kidney failure, diabetes and heart disease.

I lost 40 lbs in 3 months with extreme dieting measures that almost destroyed my health. Spicy food lots of milk that lead to serious diarrhea every day.
