Most people have experienced some degree of pain at some point in their lives. However, for those suffering chronic or persistent pain, this can become extremely debilitating. The main purpose of pain clinics is to provide pain management for those suffering acute pain. However, this can be accomplished in a number of ways.

Pain Medication:

In order to manage your pain, pain clinics will often begin the treatment process with the prescription of pain medication. Initially, the pain medication prescribed may be a milder pain medication such as Tylenol but if this is not effective, the medical practitioner may escalate the pain medication to antispasmodics, muscle relaxants or even antidepressants depending on the particular type of pain you are experiencing.

Chiropractic Services:

Chiropractors are a type of medical practitioner specializing in providing alternative care for back and joint pain. The chiropractor will often use spinal corrections and adjustments to manipulate the joints to realign any issues. This can provide increased mobility and alleviate pain caused by tissue damage or strains.

Electronic Stimulation:

This is often called TENS or Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation. This involves the application of mild electronic stimulation to the skin over the affected area. Electronic stimulation is considered to be effective as a pain management approach. The electrical impulse is directed to the affected area using electrodes which can hinder the pain receptors from transmitting pain messages to the brain.

Radio Ablation:

Radio Frequency Ablation or RFN uses heat to subdue the nerve endings to disrupt pain messages. As modern technology progresses the RFN equipment advances to make the treatment more effective. RFN functions by reducing pain by compromising the medila branch nerves, which transmit pain signals through the body to the brain. The procedure is accomplished under local anesthetic while the medical practitioner uses an x-ray to direct the RFN treatment.

Surgery is often considered to be the last resort of pain management. The specifics of the surgical procedure will depend on the specifics of the injury or damage. For example, arthritis sufferers may require joint replacement to alleviate pain and improve mobility.

Pain clinics
offer hope to a great many people suffering from acute or persistent pain. They can also offer additional support services such as counseling, to help reduce depression and stress caused by chronic pain. This complete service can provide a fantastic solution for those struggling with pain issues. However, before any pain management strategy can be implemented, it is important that the underlying cause of the pain is diagnosed. This will often involve a number of tests such as x-rays to determine the specific reason for the pain. The diagnosis can affect which treatments are most appropriate to provide relief. Therefore pain clinics will often undertake diagnosis as part of their services. Once you have a diagnosis, the pain clinic's medical staff can provide guidance as to which treatment method is best suited to your specific requirements. Many treatments can provide some relief immediately, but in order to become pain free, you may need to be willing to try a number of different approaches to find the perfect treatment for you.
