Shin splints are a painful condition some people will get when they are running, jumping or walking around on uneven surfaces. I want to help show you how to treat shin splints and prevent them from flaring up. All that is essentially happening is there some sort of stress or wear on the muscles around the shin area.
With that all said, I can show you how to treat shin splints:
- Stretching The Shin Muscles: This is a great way to stretch out these muscles, so you don't end up getting shin splints. Sometimes stretching isn't enough, so you really need to do it on a regular basis and even try some “exaggerated" movements that would help the muscles stretch. For example, you could try walking around on the tips of your toes. This is a valid move for your body, you just don't do it that often. This will allow you to work those muscles in.
- Nutrition: By improving your diet, your body will be better able to treat shin splints. Simple things such as calcium can keep your bones very strong. Increased protein can also help aid in repairing of the shin muscles, so when you experience a splint, you know that your muscles are getting repaired and will probably start adapting, which will eliminate the splints.
- Your Form: This is the most effective, but hardest too do. The best way to treat shin splints is to change the way you walk and run. Most of us don't do it properly and this leads to problems.
