OCD Forum Different Kinds of OCD Part Two Constantly Checking on Your Baby

Is my baby ok? Every father/mother that deals with this type of obsession is suffering because they feel like they can't do more than enough to protect their kids. Their intentions are good, it's just that they take it too far.

Again this obsession is based in logic. I want to make sure that my kid is ok, so I will check up on him/her. The only problem is that they do it more than normal people would. You need to ask someone who does not have OCD how many times is it appropriate to check your baby. Then only check your baby that many times.

No matter what harm you imagine in your mind is happening to them, it's not. The only time to break this rule is if you can physically see, hear, are told about or in some other way know that there is a cause for alarm. It's going to be tough at first because parents love their kids and want to make sure that everything is ok, it's in our nature.

Sometimes however we take it too far, so we just need to know the boundary that is set. ONLY check your child as often as someone without OCD would. If you suffer from this type of OCD, make sure that you tell some friends so that they can support you through this, just make sure that they don't do the ritual for you, don't use them to fulfill your impulse. They are just there to tell you that your baby is going to be ok, and that you can check him/her again at the scheduled time.

Take action: Get a buddy to help you out on this one. As with all types of OCD, the only way to become free of it is to stop doing it so you'll need someone there are first to help you keep your ground and say no to OCD!
