Reiki and Healing

An invisible but palpable life force energy infuses and permeates all living things. This energy is infinite, limitless and pure. Even though it is perceived as intangible, inaudible and invisible, it fills us with peace, constantly bathing our very existence. This energy is the life-force that is the essence of all physical matter. It gives us vitality, strength, growth, involvement and the very life that we cherish.

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is defined as universal life force. It is this universal energy that connects the body's innate ability to heal. Reiki was rediscovered in the mid-1800's by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese monk educator. Reiki's origins are found in the Tibetan sutras, ancient records of cosmology and philosophy.

Reiki is a healing practiced through the touch, applied wherever and whenever appropriate. Reiki does not require complicated techniques to accomplish rejuvenating healing and so it is easily incorporated in a variety of healing modalities, as well as being easily learned and performed by the lay person.

The use of Reiki is very relaxing, encouraging the body ‘s healing systems. Studies have shown that a deep state of relaxation acts through the autonomic nervous system often lowering blood pressure and heart rate, and to relieve tension and anxiety. This relaxation also assists the immune system to defend against bacteria and viruses, and it also stimulates the brain's production of endorphins, natural opiates that act to decrease the body's perception of pain and create a feeling of well-being. The energy flow of life-force throughout the body encourages healing of all levels.

Anyone can lay their hands on another person and help accelerate the healing process by transferring magnetic energy. However, the Reiki practitioner receives attunements or initiations from a Reiki master teacher. These attunements open channels or fine tuning of the physical and etheric bodies to a higher level. Also, in addition, certain of the energy centers, known as chakras, are opened to assist the person to channel (vibrate) higher amounts of Universal Life Force Energy. Your body has the capacity to heal itself.

However, the ability to consistently tap into the source of this healing has been largely unknown to Western society. Reiki is a way for you to connect with your healing ability, restoring balance and harmony to the physical, mental, and emotional levels of your being.
