“Health is the new black. ”
This statement may sound a bit generalized as obesity rates across most developed and developing countries are at an all time high. However, one cannot deny the fact that personal health is taken far more seriously than it was 3-4 decades ago. The sale of exercise and health club equipment such as treadmills, barbells, exercise bicycles and stair steppers is at an all time high and so is the demand for protein-rich food supplements.
People are conscious about their health and social lifestyle and this type of peer pressure urges many to live a healthy life free from diseases and various physical ailments. However, not everybody performs these physical activities to portray a certain image in the society. There are many who consciously improve their physical and mental well being by eating the right type food and exercising regularly. Gone are the days when staying fit meant that one had to wake up before sunrise and jog across town? With the advancement in technology, exercise equipment that was once confined to gyms and health clubs can now be availed by the general public.
The first thing that comes to mind when one thinks about a quintessential modern fitness regime is the image of a person on a treadmill. It is well known that running and brisk walking are one of the best ways to stay fit, thus explaining the popularity of treadmill amongst other health club and exercise equipment. Spending 20 minutes on a treadmill on a daily basis is known to reduce heart related problems, obesity, develop stronger bones and improving one’s overall immune system. Obesity is a serious problem that is affecting modern society and a treadmill is a viable solution for this global problem. Not everybody wants to be the next Arnold Schwarzenegger or Sylvester Stallone, however most people definitely want to stay fit at all times.
The easy availability of health club equipment has reduced the need for people to join clubs which can be very expensive in terms of monthly/annual membership plans. Investing in good quality exercise equipment can be a better investment for most in the long run. These equipments are fairly easy to use and most top manufacturers offer good after sales service, which makes the purchase worthwhile.
Due to this boom in the sales of exercise equipment, one must be careful about the various scams and schemes associated with it, as with any other sudden business boom. There are several no-name manufacturers who provide treadmills and other equipment at a fraction of the cost of legit, branded ones. This is facilitated by the lack of good quality standards, sub-standard production materials and cheap labor. Although such deals might seem tempting at first, buyers must weigh in the high risk factor of purchasing such equipment. One should not gamble with health and there is no guarantee that these treadmills won’t break down in the middle of a fast paced sprint.
Having said that, well known manufacturers should start pricing their products competitively as it will reduce competition from these cheap brands and also help society as providing the general public with good exercise equipment is a kin to promoting good health.
