The Herpes 2 Virus - What You Need To Know About Genital Herpes

Herpes 2 is also known as the HSV-2 virus, which is the leading contributor to genital herpes. This virus infects the mucosal surfaces of the body (i. e. genitals and mouth area) and then proceeds to root itself within the nervous system. HSV-1 and HSV-2 can both cause genital outbreaks, but it’s the HSV-2 virus that resides at the base of the spine, eventually causing the genitals to become infected.

How do you know if you are a carrier of herpes type 2? The more information you have about what the symptoms are, the better you can read the signs. Symptoms of type 2 usually begin with an itching or tingling sensation in the genital region. After that, blisters can usually be found on the infected area (vagina and/or penis). Other areas that may become infected with sores are the thighs, pubic area, buttocks and anus.

Being infected with genital herpes type 2 does not mean that life as you know it will end. However, you will need to be more cautious during any *** activity. Take note of the word cautious—this does not mean that sex is out of the question. Many people that have the herpes virus maintain a healthy and fulfilling sex life. It is important however, to remember that the virus can be passed even when there is no visible outbreak. Using a condom during and between outbreaks is a great way to keep your partner safe.

Contrary to popular belief, herpes 2 isn’t always painful. Many times, it’s only the first outbreak that’s the worst. Usually, the recurring outbreaks are relatively mild compared to the initial outbreak, which allows you to manage the virus more effectively.

It is also extremely important to understand that herpes type 2 can be passed along in more ways than just vaginal intercourse. Allowing your partner to perform oral sex on you can leave them open to contracting the virus. The same goes for anal sex. Take the necessary precautions so you can keep your partner at low risk.

Genital herpes type 2 can be treated. Prescription medicines are not the only option out there. Natural remedies, such as topical creams, are available. These can ease the pain, without the risk of side effects. Believe it or not, having the virus makes it more of a social problem, than it does a medical problem.

Try to keep your emotions in control as much as possible as well. High levels of emotional and physical stress can cause herpes 2 outbreaks to happen more frequently. It can also cause them to be more painful. Your worries and fears can be kept to a minimum once you educate yourself about the virus. Herpes is not something to be feared. It does not have to control you. Stay aware and keep living a fulfilling life.
